Green Building Code & Labelling Program

The Green Building Code is a document being developed to further expand on existing building energy efficiency codes. The aim of the Green Building Code is to lay out clear guidelines for both new buildings in the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as retrofit projects to ensure a minimum level of energy efficiency is achieved. Key areas of concern are the efficiency of energy consuming systems such as HVAC (air conditioning), lighting, motors and pumps, and the systems effecting the thermal efficiency of the building such as the building envelope and construction techniques employed.
The Green Building Labelling Program is a recognition tool for buildings which achieve levels of energy efficiency meeting or exceeding the requirements set forth in the Green Building Code. By increasing awareness of building energy efficiency and giving building owners recognition of energy efficiency efforts the Green Building Code and Labelling Program further will promote the national interests of Bahrain in meeting the targets of the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP).
